Rugby is a popular sport in France, but it is still not quite as popular as football (or soccer). It is more popular in the south of France, than it is in the rest of the country. It is actually the second most popular sport in the country, as well as the second most watched sport in the country. There are roughly 400,000 rugby players in France according to the FFR, which stands for Fédération Française de Rugby. The Daily Best has described rugby as, ". . . the game of big tackles, no helmets, and huge athletes in short shorts. . ."

Rugby can be a very violent game, as shown in the YouTube video below. It shows a brawl between France and Australia.
When these fights occur the team member that caused the incident receives a penalty. Some players can even be given a suspension, depending on what happened. This doesn't happen during every game, but it does happen more often than most would like it to.
